I like the name Aparajita,

Which means invincible

The Bengali version is Aparojito, I think Satyajit Ray did a move by that name.

Indian names

I have four girl cousins who are half Indian, Gulshan (I read that Gul means Flower), Roushana, Safia and Sitaara (which I particularly like and I think means Star)
Not sure what Safia Roushana mean though (if spelt Safiya it means Untroubled, Pure, Serene and Best friend
I just looked on a good site called www.indiaparenting.com it has loads of names

Not quite !! "Brahmaputra" is son of Brahma and hence necessarily male !

In Hindi too, the Brahmaputra river is referred to as a "nada" and not "nadi", the latter being a commonly used word for a river(female) !

No Radhas? That's my favourite.
Pooja's also really cute, and as much as I'd love to have a daughter I could nickname "Poo", she'd probably hate me for it.

Cheers guys, some food for thought there
We now have a shortlist of three girls names ...one Indian, one Scottish and one from nowhere in particular ...We'll probably change to a different one by the time its born

What a responsibility to name a human...A name they will take with them fro their entire life, which will come to identify them to the world ...not that I'm trying to put pressure on myself hahahaha

It will probably be a boy and then we'll really be snookered hahahaha

Still waiting ...was due yesterday but no show ...

Bryan

An Indian girl unfortunately may not carry her name for the rest of her life !!

If she marries, her husband may change her first name after marriage, just to follow some stupid age old tradition ! Is it going to change the girl's identity, her personality, her nature, etc ??

I'm happy I did not fall prey to this custom. My wife's first name remains the same which was lovingly given to her by her parents at birth.

Congratulations Bryan...

I personally like the Russian names Zoya (my name ), Tatyana, and Nadya. As far as Indian names go I like Riya, Megha, Nitara, or Alia (actually Arabic roots). Hope this helps

Zoya
