What is the name of an Indian bed?

i became intriqued with them while there - they are also, i think used as benches/couches...any idea of the name? someone told me charpi but i googled and can't find it...and any idea if they are available for export??

Then it would be a good name for a dog. If ever I adopt a street dog I will try to remember this this. I ike the idea of a dog called bed!

Yep, my Hindi teacher was always going on about that.. See also bungalow, pyjamas, verandah, punch (the drink), jodhpur (that one's a bit obvious though), and khaki ...

I thought the word for an actual bed was palang? My idea of charpoi was the cot the taxi drivers sleep on at their stand when off duty.

In this part of the world a bed, ie the wooden structure you put a mattress on, is called a cot.
