What do you love/hate the most about India??

Love: great variety of vegetarian food; ethnic variety; low cost accommodation (outside Calcutta/Bombay); culturally rich; shopping for cotton fabric; herbal medicine; pharmaceuticals (no foreign patents); English language book publishing industry; liberal visa entry (six months); excellent train coverage of country; easy languages to learn in the north (compared to tonal Thai and Chinese).

Hate: men who haven't learned how to walk on the sidewalk without bumping into others' shoulders, men and boys who won't get out of my face when I am interactig with their female sisters and neighbors; many travellers I meet in India are really into drugs (I can barely tolerate coffee), are homosexual or asexual religionists (I don't care but I can't talk about girls with them and I am really not interested in how good the hash is in HP); boring Brahmins I meet on trains who won't shut up.

Conclusion: Indians are aggressive and outside tribal (& Buddhist?) areas it is a male oriented culture. India is strong on religion and weak on sex. It is rare to meet travellers who are equally at home oggling the go-go dancers of Patpong (Bangkok) and enjoying the awesome sculpture of Elephanta.

Then you should have been here nine years ago!

Seems like a rather stupid post from someone who might have spent as much as two or three days here. Best forgotten.

The entire site could be subtitled What you love and hate about India, and most of it is much better informed --- so why dig up this particular bit of rubbish?

If person is talking about easier understanding of Hindustani then it has got to be a longer stay than 2-3 days, you agree!

I only agree that the post was hardly worth reading, let alone responding to, which is probably why nobody did. For nine years!

Nick, Uncle Ji: Maybe this is time moderators could "lock" some of the ancient threads and put them on the pyre? Would definitely save band-with and monthly running charges to site owner. Maybe another "full-time" job for the love/Karma, may be to amalgamate threads with similar titles/ subject matter into one, rather than trying to "re-invent the wheel" as we say in English??

WHY REPLY? and prolong its existence.

Pity there was not a delete button on posts of a certain time
lapse, or cut off as in Tripadvisor.

Or maybe Nadreg likes receiving the lucre.

Please reply in a new thread

Mostly, time does the job very effectively. Also, there is a treasure trove of history here. In its way, even this is a little gem and it would be very sad if it got locked away.

Very true Nick!

I have always been a reader/book-worm, hence why I bump some threads up & give them air again from the depths.
Back on topic, What do I most hate about the idea of visiting India? Too many people wanting to be just like the western world/too many white people in general, lol, and the thing I am looking forward most to? Is losing myself somewhere where I AM the only "white-o" person in Allah/Gods know how many miles

It doesn't take much. Last time I was in Lucknow, I saw a couple of foreign fellows from a ricksha, but never saw them again.

Bhopal was another one of those places: the only foreigner I saw was the one gal with whom I'd planned a meetup.

Just get off the beaten trail, man, and you'll be the only foreigner around.
