What do you call an Uttar Pradesh person?
ok....here is this "bhaiya" story:
In UP, people have a habit of addressing their colleagues, friends and companians as "bhaiya" meaning brother in Hindi......so they usually call out - " Are Bhaiya kaise ho?" - How r u brother ........OR........"Kyon Bhaiya kya chal raha hai?" - Whats goin on brother........
This habit was so peculiar to UP wallas that people of other regions started identifying people from UP with this way of speaking and started addressing people from Up as "Bhaiyas"...
Now in Mumbai, due to economic tension among native marathi and northern immigrants, Bhaiya is often used as derogatery term for people from UP-Bihar-MP belt.
and pls pls pls take note that people from UP arent called UPite or UPean or any such word, these words have originated in recent times while coversing in English
