I started a thread some time back, and there was a lot of discussion on this...but still..when credible agencies like TOI are carrying articles that too with a positive outlook..then you have no choice but to beleive..

well, you do have to take things with a pinch of salt.
dont know who has authorised them to publish such rankings. for a country like us, where people are not literate ..let alone computer literate and internet conectivity being not widespread.. we have really achieved great if we could place the taj within the top 10. sad that the beauty of a monument is being judged on the basis of the internet access available to its citizens,,,, thats what i feel. I have pitched in with my vote though.. and will try to vote as much from seperate id's but not really very hopeful on this.

Do you think the following list can be manipulated? (Note the absence of India wonders).

Hi,
Only 22 days left and rumour has it that the Taj is not doing that well. You can vote online. http://www.new7wonders.com/index.php?id=351&L=0 or text To vote for the Taj Mahal by SMS send TAJ to 4567 Would be a tragedy for the taj to miss out. Candyji

"Egypt's pyramids were granted the status of "honorary" New7Wonders candidate — and removed from voting — after Egyptian authorities protested that their historical value could not be called into question."

Isn't this funny! Who are the New7Wonder guys and by what authority are they doing this? Does this voting means anything?
I mean let's say Statue of Liberty loses to AngkorVat, I bet still more people will be visiting Statue because it is easier to reach, better infrasturcture, more people know about it etc. Personally I feel all are wonders, since all are earning wonderful money for their governments. |

IMHO Angkor Wat is much more interesting, more misterious, more beautiful, and so on... than for example the Statue of Liberty or Stone Henge even if it's unfair to compare different buildings/monuments.
If Angkor Wat isn't any of the 7 world wonders it would be a big disappointment. However VPSINGH is right, how can you actually compare different buildings/monuments???? Surely political interests are very important and the small and poor countries with "world wonders" will have more difficulties to win. A lot of fantastic "wonders" have been forgotten and it's only possible for "Internet countries" to vote. I doubt that many African countries will be able to vote and anyway nobody cares about them seriously. ![]() |

Given the passion that I know some of our members have for the place, I'm surprised no-one has mentioned Hampi as a contender.

Each country/community has its own treasures which are wonders in their own. This is an unfair competition. One can not compare Schumacher (excuse my spellings) with Tiger Woods. They are wonders, both in their own field. Looks to me a publicity stunt and huge earnings for phone companies.

Nick - Hampi is not there in the list.
I don't think Hampi qualifies for one of the wonders, though i love the place. I believe the whole of Himalayan mountain range can be a "Wonder". |
