VOIP Phone service to India

Does anybody know about VOIP service in India or any free way of making calls to India. I know about Skype but both people need to have computer for that one. My parents in India don't have computer at home. Please let me know if anyone knows of any new think out there...

You might know this already...

But skype's 'Skype-Out' plan will enable you to call your parents' phone number. Switched from Vonage to this just a few months back. It's dirt cheap.

I just checked Skype out rate, it is 17 cents per min. I don't think it is really good rate. Normally I use phone card which offers 6-9 cents per min.

Skype...

It is only about $0.15 per minute to Madras, mate. The good thing is that you only pay for the calls. No extra charges. Ofcourse, you can make calls only from a softphone software on your PC/laptop and not from regular phones.

Thumbs up another link

Punjabi-kudi: I think Nick-H started a thread a couple of weeks back on Skype and there were a lot of others who contributed there on various other services, feature comparisons, costs, etc. You might want to search the forum for that.

(Yes, calling cards can be cheaper. I was talking from my point of view...I dislike using phones and my only calls are to my parents, which I make from my laptop. No home phone, no personal cellphone...it is such a liberating experience!)

Cheers!
