Shenaii lost its sweetness today.......

Ustad Bismillah Khan died of heart attack.

Music will never be the same again.

amen. he leaves a beautiful legacy in hindustani music.

just felt like repasting this statement from the wikipedia article...~

"
Despite his fame, Khan's lifestyle retained its old world Benares charm. His chief mode of transport was the cycle rickshaw. A man of tenderness, he believed in remaining private, and that musicians are supposed to be heard and not seen. He was a pious Shia Muslim and also, like many Indian musicians regardless of creed, a devotee of Mother Saraswati."

I have Ustad Bismallah Khan & Party - Shehnai Fantasia - All India Radio CD - and it is excellent! What are some of his other CD's that can be recommended as a must have for his fans?

Instrumental (Shenai) version of "Ye Jo Des Hai Tera" , a song composed by AR Rehman from the film Swades is worth listening 100 times. Its a gem.

You can listen it online here. There are two versions of this song here, a vocal and a shenai version. Great piece of work.
