Shashank, How about this...
Abey Oye!! Ghoor mat!! Mujhe Kya Par Lage Hain?!!

(Hey You!! Don't Stare!! Do I have wings?!!

Sounds more funny in Hindi as it's colloquially humourous!!

Please print the T-shirts for all IMers, as all draw a lot of undue attention !!
Smile -- it makes people wonder what you're up to

What word does it sound like?

Remove the "I" from the end and make it a flatter "a" sound more like in "are" or "army" and you've got yourself the word for someone's rear end, or also "dirty".

Haha... I'll use this one!!! But...in case I feel like being a bit more polite once in a while: How do I say "I was born like that" or something similar? (I was born with one hand)

zaroor = sure (as in 'sure, i will definitely do that')

zaroori = important ('zaroori baat' = important matter)

and works well with both singular and plural

if you want to simplify. just say " aapki photo " or " one photo" people should get the idea

"Aapki Photo" means "your photo" and "Ek Photo" means "One photo"..

'Sakta' is to be used by males and 'Sakti' by females..

Hindi words that come in handy?

Hello,

I was wondering if you could tell me if there are any Hindu words/short sentences (including phonetics, if possible) that come in handy when travelling in India?

For example, I went to Cambodia earlier this year and a friend of mine taught me a few simple sentences in Khmer that really did wonders sometimes
Not only were the Cambodians suprised that a girl would be able to say something in their language, they would also leave one alone

Like: "Just walking" (daling) when the rickshaw drivers came running to get some business or "Have it already" (mean howie) when the sunglass sellers would bug the hell out of you...

Hi,

Check out this thread: Useful Hindi for travellers

And btw it's Hindi, not Hindu. A Hindu is someone whose religion is Hinduism.

It should be Hindi word and not Hindu word. Hindi and Hindu are entirely two different things.
Yes knowing some simple but important lines do help.
