Dear all,
after scoring all positive opinions for a trip to South India in Aug, I went to the local travel agent here asking for the plane ticket to Chennai. She stared at me as I were going mad. She said that the weather in the South can be terrible, that flights can be cancelled, that you might have to stop along the way with the car (we were thinking about hiring a car + driver) in unknown places because you cannot go further..etc etc...she added that the only place she suggested for summer was Rajasthan....GOSH!!! Is it really sooo dramatic??? Any one experienced the weather in Tamil Nadu one of last Aug? Please let me know, as I am getting really confused!!! ciao federica.....
i am having the same problem as you......i have had positive news about southern india and especially tamil nadu in august too but the same happens when i go to a travel agent!!!!! They tell me not to go..... although i cant tell you its ok from personal experience, lots of people have also told me its amazing, that the sun shines alot and that there should not be problems with flooding.....i think most of the rain comes in october november.... i have booked my flight and am leaving for chennai on 27th july....might see you there... in boca lupo!!!! |

I dont even think that the travel agent is exagerating. I think she is plainly lying. August sounds a good time to visit South just after the monsoon.
Never heard of flights getting canceled in that season unless there is a typhoon nearby in the ocean. Which is very rare. ( in case of any members from chennai read this, please update!) And about cars being stopped and sent back, maybe one person had that experience and the agent is generalising. Never came across such events in the south for ages. Unless ofcourse it was a road block due to a religious procession or a maintanence work, where there shall ALWAYS be a alternate route to take.
