Its actually the FCO ...Foreign & Commonwealth Office

I quite liked the FO as it kind of sums up our attitude to the rest of the world during the height of the empire hahaha
We came we stole we got a tan , went home ...and still didn't learn a second language

As for travel warnings ...Pinch of salt and all that ...

It's NOW called the FCO, it used to be the FO, but I guess someone on the inside finally caught on to the joke.

FCO still has a nice ring to it.

Re travel advisory to UP: they must have finally got word of the sepoy mutiny.

Ah man every where I go Orwell.
These comments may or may not be taken seriously.
Personaly I don't give the comments too much heed, India is so much bigger then one voice!
But you pay your tickets and you take your chances.

Unfortunately this is just another article that brings home the crazy times we live in, every where I look, including it now seems India, I'm faced with the threat, the backlash, the high oil prices, more expensive airline ticket, the airport security. jeez I've even heard terrorism used as an excuse to come down stronger on media piracy!! man...... you all know what I'm talking
about!

Anyway TRAVEL INDIA!!! It's safe, humane, warm and an inspiration!
From living a wandering life since I was born I reckon that goes for most of the world, if you tread lightly.

Don't be scared to live in the world we inhabit, and maybe concentrate on the things that bring us together, rather that those that define us.

In my opinion govts are engaging in a campaign of paranoia the more afraid people are the better ...
Look at the red threat panic of the early coldwar ...the similarities are amazing ...Once people are afraid it becomes so much easier to discriminate and attack personal freedom ...

Sorry I'm getting political

Say F.O. to the clerics and visit U.P. Its as safe as the other regular tourist destinations in India.

I think the point was that we shouldn't take any FO seriously.

If something did happen and the FO said nothing and had info that things might be dangerous then they would get sh*t on.

These guys have printed posters and man entrances, a small altercation between 5 let's say Israelis and them would force you to look up the advisory.

The good news is that we no longer have to produce our passports to prove that we are not from the UK or USA. (I've not seen Israel mentioned in the reports I've been reading), this was happening at the entrances of Muslim shrines in Lucknow.

Now we only have to walk over our national flags to enter the shrines, so things are improving.

Steven, it was on the telly like 5 days ago (NDTV), the printed posters read something like "No American, British or Israelis". The guy who spoke to the reporter seemed well dressed and educated, the message was more "allies of America not welcome" and it all has to do with what's happening in Iraq now. I still think this one advise from the FCO is worth paying heed to at least for the very near future. 5 disgruntled tourists at the gate making a noise about it will suffice to bring in an angry mob.
