Total Solar Eclipse 2009 in India

A total solar eclipse will be visible in certain parts of India on July 22nd 2009. This will be the longest Total Solar Eclipse in the 21st century (about 4 minutes duration in India). It'll be visible in India early in the morning just after sunrise.

One major drawback will that the monsoon will be in full swing... That day may be cloudy in many parts of India...

I for one am definitely aiming to be in India specifically for this. I am going to try and view it from Varanasi. The sun rises over the Ganges and is visible from the city side, the ghats, hotels etc. Should be great, as long as the weather holds out! Positive thought!

I saw another total eclipse here in the Channel Islands, just near to where I live, in a place called Alderney, in 1999. It was cloudy that day too but it was still an eerie experience viewing the oncoming shadow and hearing the birds go quiet and then sing again. We managed to get a couple of brief glimpses of the sun through the cloud and it was amazing.

There is also another eclipse coming up in India. January 15th 2010 sees an "Annular" Eclipse of almost 10 minutes at the very southern tip of India and across the north of Sri Lanka.
