These are a few of our favourite things
When you travel, what is your favourite backpack companion?
mine are "showers in a box" ie babywipes. for me there's nothing more refreshing than cleaning your face with a moist wipe in the morning when you wake up. its quicker than showering and sometimes a better alternative. once, when trekking in nepal, my brother and i went 3 weeks without a shower and, looking back, i realise how much i appreciate my babywipes. ![]() |

Tops on my list would definitely be a gas mask, in case I ran into you and your brother in Nepal

the thing is on the trek we did (up to gokyo - an alternative to everest base camp) everybody is in the same boat. on a budget the showers start costing more than people like to pay and besides most of the time it was too cold to shower. the cool thing is after a while, when you start to stink, everyone else stinks as well and so you cant smell each other, so the gas mask would be wasted. however if you encounted me straight after the trek in katmandu id definately pull out the mask

I think a chess board is great for breaking the ice on long journeys, or in lodgings.
Actually, you don't even need a board, just a piece of cloth with the squares on it. You can rap the pieces in it. I find chess can cut a long train journey in half.
