the older traveler

One thing nice about being 50+ is that, no mater where you go, you can wear whatever the hell you want.

rickshaw,

Just now.

That's another good thing about being 50+. Periodically you get these flashes (of insignt, but also the other kind too).

The Indian railways also provide benefits to "senior citizens" by having a separate queue for them at reservation counters of major stations and offering concessional fare.

Of course, to qualify one has to be 60+ !

Also, in buses and trains, if you do not have a seat, the younger passengers will get up and offer you their seat.

That's true lonelyaztec, and sometimes we get to ride with the driver up front!

I have slightly mixed feelings about that though!

You can say that again! :-) The terror feeling is literally & figuratively a roller-coaster ride isn't it?

i missed the experience of riding in a bus while in india. i guess i also missed riding while standing in the back of a lorry or on top of a vehicle. (well, there was the ride on top of a camel cart... bumping down the side of the highway, but i'm sure the top of a bus would still be different)

now, see, i've even more reasons to go back !

Thumbs up

well . . .
is 53 old?
I don't scramble around on rocks nearly as well these days, so trekking is out for me, as is most climbing. fortunately, I started early in Ma India, and did a lot of it. I like a bit more comfort these days, and it's a lot easier to get a $10 hotel that it ever was. Also, it's still relatively cheap to hire a car. So the little things that make a big diff when you're slowing down are a bargain in India.
Also I've cleaned up a bit plus have grey SHORT hair, and look the part, so I get a lot of "Ed Uncle" energy my way.
All in all, India still works for the creaking traveler, no need to go on a tour with a fishing hat yet!

When you get old you'll have more face to wash and less hair to comb

I like old people in day time, they are usually funny and kind, but not the snoring ones in the night buses and trains as my neighbours
