The Most Beautiful Views on Earth...
Okay, we've had threads related to mankinds greatest treasures (inspired by Around the World in 80 Treasures), threads on the places you want to see before you die.
So, here's another idea. The most beautiful views on Earth. They can be view of mountains, seas, desert, harbours, man-made, whatever - just the views where you've stood there and gone 'wow'. You're allowed 5 nominations, here's mine:- The view... 1. of Kanchenjunga at dawn. 2. from the top of the Lago La in Kashmir. 3. from the top of Mt Fuji at dawn. 4. from Victoria Peak over Hong Kong harbour at night. 5. over Wineglass Bay in Tasmania. Cheers RTP ![]()

Hi RTP,
I have not been to so many places... But off the places i have been to, these views are the best for me 1. view of kurumba island ( in Maldives ) from my ferry. View of the coral reefs in the sea bed 2. View of andaman islands from the flight 3. View of the beach at Karwar from top of the western ghats. From a point in Belgaum district, from on top of the mountains, u can see the Arabian see, which is about 50 kms away. It is awesome 4. View of the kerala backwaters from the houseboat...early in the morning 5. Taj Mahal...most beautiful man made structure.. |

1. The Kullu Valley as seen from Naggar, H.P.
2. The Dhauladhar range as seen from Palampur, H.P. 3. The twinkling lights of Doon valley as seen from Mussoorie. 4. The Rajdhani / Shatabdi Express pulling into a platform at New Delhi station as seen from the foot overbridge, with the hum of the generator car in my ears. 5. View of my dining table when its adorned by my favourite dishes.

Well, I haven't seen much outside Europe, so I'll just give one from my home country, and one from my travels:
The west coast of Ireland is very spectacular, particularly the area known as 'The Ring of Kerry', but I've gone for the Cliffs of Moher in Co. Clare instead. Then, in the south of Spain, on the way to Algeciras, I saw Ronda, with a spectacular view of the gorge from the cliff top. Hopefully in a year's time I'll be able to add a few more ![]() |

The most beautiful place is looking out my window or sitting on my porch and looking at our mountain ranges (three in fact). On a beautiful sunny day there is nothing like our valley and the differing shadows are cast on the moutain peaks. When a storm rolls through our valley one can hear it literally pass by with such grandeour. We locals call the one peak in front of my house The Knob.
That's why I moved to south central PA and gave up concrete (I mean city ) living. ![]()

Off the top of my head, but this could change if I sat and thought about it (instead of getting on with the Java project I should be doing...)
1. The Annapurna range from the top of Poon Hill 2. The Olgas at sunset 3. Watching blocks of ice the size of tower-blocks, falling off Mt Sefton (NZ) from my cozy bivvy-bag on the oposite hill - it was first thing in the morning - the roar woke me up 4. Watching a herd of wild elephants peacefully grazing in a lake in Kaziranga 5. Yosemite Valley - from any angle I love responding to these polls, it makes me think of all the wonderful experiences I've had and gives me a good feeling for the rest of the day ![]()

torryquine: I agree with your choices for Annapurna & those beautiful orange colours, & the Grandeur of Yosemite. So have gone for 5 alternatives
1, Lying on your back somewhere in the middle of nowhere & losing yourself in the universe. 2, Any sunrise from a plane at 36000ft heading east. 3, Looking round as dawn breaks on the beach at an all night Anjuna full moon party. 4, The view from the top of the Empire State Building. 5, Any stereotypical ocean sunset with palm trees. |

Good Thread. It really made me think. There are so many beautiful places in the world, how could one choose. Then I realized that what made a place most memorable for me usually involved wildlife.
1. I go to Yosemite Natl Park (CA) fairly often, and it's so beautiful. But my fondest memory is when I saw a Momma bear with 2 cubs strolling on a nearby hillside. 2. At the Grand Canyon (AZ), as stunning as it is, it's even more wonderful when the magestic California Condors are soaring above it. 3. Zion National Park (Utah) is also breathtaking, but no view will get people's attention more than a family of Bighorn Sheep looking quite at ease on the side of rocky cliff. 4.The Pacific Coast has thousands of miles of tireless views that one can sit and stare at endlessly, but when when dolphin start playing or a whale breeches close to shore, then it's really special. 5. In India, my most memorable views were man-made, such spectacular structures everywhere. I was in Pushkar during the camel fair and those are images I'll never forget. At Periyar, as lovely as it is, it would have been just another walk in the woods without the elephants. I'm going back to India next year, and heading north, so expect I will add a lot to this list. |
