The CBI special court in Pankula today convicted Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim in a case of rape of two women followers. Gurmeet Ram Rahim faces a jail term upto seven years.

Ram Rahim, age 50, is being moved to a jail in Ambala, said lawyers at the Panchkula court, where violence erupted rapidly after he was declared guilty of rape.

A petrol pump and part of a train station have reportedly been set on fire in Malaout in Punjab. Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has made another appeal for peace.

But the violence is spreading. Panchkula has been overwhelmed by one lakh followers of Ram Rahim - clusters of them proliferated over the last two days. The army is on standby at the request of Haryana Chief Minister ML Khattar.

Earlier today, the Punjab and Haryana High Court authorised security forces to use force if needed, to control upset supporters; it has also warned against the use of provocative language.

In a video message at midnight, Ram Rahim appealed to his followers to disperse and return home, and urged them to keep calm. His request did not deter his devotees in Panchkula who said they would remain in the town to show support for him. Many also said they wanted to glimpse him in person.

Several trains that travel through Punjab and Haryana have been cancelled. Government offices, schools and colleges are shut, and Panchkula is under curfew.

Three stadiums have been prepared as makeshift jails or holding places if crowds turn violent
Mobile internet services have been cancelled indefinitely in Haryana, though the city of Gurgaon, which hosts large offices of multinationals, is exempt.

Ram Rahim is also known as the "Guru of Bling" on account of his taste in clothes and ornate jewellery. He has starred in two movies, Messenger of God (MSG) and its sequel, MSG2.

He is being investigated by the CBI separately for encouraging the castration of 400 men at his ashram, he allegedly told them it would bring them closer to God.

He wasn't closer to God then why so many people follow him? Shouldn't they be following the 400 men? Was he increasing his chances?

One of his former followers who underwent castration, named Hans Raj Chauhan – is one of the few to break the silence to speak out against him and the group.

Sounds downright Trumpian.

"....being ferried in a chopper, with a privilege that few other criminals may enjoy, funded by the tax-payers' money. Incredible India, as they say."

his followers sound just like Trump's Chumps.

Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was born in August 1967 into a Jat Sikh family, at Sri Gurusar Modia village in Ganganagar district of Rajasthan. At the age of 7, he was initiated into the Dera Sacha Sauda sect by his predecessor Shah Satnam Singh.

On 23 September 1990, Shah Satnam held a satsang where he publicly conferred sainthood and succession of the spiritual leadership upon Gurmeet Ram Rahim. He is married to Harjeet Kaur and has three daughters and a son. They all use Insan as their last name.

As a sikh he should wear a typical turban or at least have a small tuft of hair tied at the top, no?
Sikhs, speaking in general, dont leave hair loose like what he does. I could be wrong.
