thanks, y'all! my birthday started at 3 AM when a friend in Kerala called me to wish me happy birthday! 
my friend and I are going to Chicago for dinner and to see The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel -- if I can't be in India on my birthday I'll watch a movie about India....
