Tamil Nadu prepares for Cyclone Mala

So that's what she's up to these days

On a more serious note: 50,000 people living near to the sea are being evacuated. Tamil Nadu has had record rains: the most rainfall for 120 years, this monsoon. Chennai is getting used to floods as opposed to its usual draught. When will it stop?

This is pretty scary........when are you expecting her to make landfall???
After the weekend's disaster with all those people being trampled....now this?? The world has sure gone mad.........some man-made and others of "nature's" making. Stay safe.

OT - You see what happens when you talk about someone???

batten down the hatches, Nick -- you and Sushi stay safe! I hope it's not as bad as Hurricane Katrina was here for New Orleans...

by the way, "mala" is Spanish for "bad"....

That'll be another cyclone; they're becoming a regular event. The last one affected further down the coast only, the one before that was the one that turned my meeting my landlady at the airport into a six-hour saga and gave a foot of water around the house.

oh no!

Again rain!
this is something terrible.
Half a month in Tamil Nadu and I just think of it like tiny patches of land. Both sides of east Coast road are inundated. Poor farmers, they harvest is flown away, today in newspapers I read about disastrous stampede in Chennai and 42 people left dead.

that stampede is fresh on the heels of a similar tragedy last month. Poor survivors of floods are desperate

i was reading about this. tragic for the homeless who were stampeded while simply trying to get some food to eat.

as my friends in Bhagsu-Nag said when i was there in March; Mother Nature is very angry!

Nick - stay safe and take the necessary precautions.

they were tryingh to get tokens for 2000 Rs and 10 kg of rice. Somebody told them Sunday was the last day of distribution of tokens. adding to theiw woes sudden night rain lashed them and caused panic. so sad.

It is very, very sad, and a combination of the don't-care attitude of Indian institutions (nobody here is going to sue and get big dollars) and the complete lack of safety sense on both a personal and civic level.

When I first came here the freedom to get hurt was, somehow, refreshing: if you fall down a hole or walk into a sharp piece of steel, tough. But then something like this happens

Mala was a piece of IndiaMike history that seems to have disapeared, even from the member's list.

Sue the government through a public interest litigation....for callousness.

I hope mala is the last one. I can't stand another cyclone...had to put up with six cyclones already.

She certainly will be, with her selfish and thoughtless abuse by man everywhere.
