Tall white woman in India :)

First of all, please don't laugh

I know myself that my question is a silly one, but I need your opinion

I'm a young female and I'm considering going to India on my own. I've read a lot about sexual harrasement cases over there, therefore I'm a bit worried (only a bit though

). I was thinking - could my height help me avoid unpleasant situations with Indian men? I'm quite tall - 184 cm (or 6 feet and almost 1 inch) and men are often afraid of me here in Ireland

I imagine that my height would be a bit unusual for Indians too, or am I wrong? I know well, I won't be able to avoid lots of staring, but I'm hoping that maybe my height will help me to be treated as a kind, but serious looking woman who won't stand any hands under her skirt?

Am I wrong?

Be extra cautious because Indian men love tall women… Just kidding.. Chaos created by certain section of media about the safety of women in India is an exaggeration. India is as safe as any other country & vice-versa. Don’t be afraid…
Tall woman like you must not be afraid of such trivial matters & BTW, I am glad to know that you are 184 cm tall, its nice to know fellow tall people. I am 6.4” feet tall

There are many threads on women & safety already; try also this (massive) one: Blondes- to dye or not to dye? & women's wear, women's safety etc

Being very tall will, I think, only mean you draw more attention. But then any foreigner of whatever shape and size and no matter in what dress will draw attention anyway. And attention doesn't equal harassment. It's just the way it is in India, one has to get used to getting openly stared at. As long as it's kept at staring, you'll just have to deal with it. (Make no mistake, as a foreign man you get stared at just the same.)

Don't forget this board itself is full of women of all shapes and ages who travel (and live!) there solo or in pairs or in groups. They seem to get by, somehow, and with its ups and downs, no doubt.

India is safe just like other parts of this planet.Though some areas might not be fully safe alone during nights etc but there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

Plan up things and dont hesitate to have your doubts cleared from folks here on IndiaMike.

and you will be good to go.

I'm no where close to your height, but still tall for Indian women standards...

It's easy to "look down", the little funny fellas usually get intimidated.

It's also easy to grab them by the collar and shake them up.

as you are irish and therefore have red hair, you will probably get a lot of attention anyway.

seriously, expect a lot of attention. my g/f was is all of 5 ft nothing tall was stared at a lot. on a train ride, the guys in the adjacent berth just lay there and stared at her endlessly. apparently they don't know this is socially unacceptable to westerners.
