taking rupees into india
hey all, i have just read that Indian rupees are not allowed to be brought into India, nor to be taken out. is this true/enforced ? i already have rupees ready to take with me, leaving soon. any help appreciated .........psycle

That's certainly the rule but how can it be enforced? Only by searching people arriving and that's not going to be good for the tourist business! Over many visits to India I've never been stopped or searched even though I look a thoroughly suspicious character.
Many people who visit India regularly usually have some rupees left over from the previous trip. If you already have the rupees then don't worry about it. I presume you don't have a whole suitcase full - then you might have problems. As a general rule though, there is no need to bring rupees, as you will get a good exchange rate at the airport on arrival. |
