Taj Mahal

We are visiting Delhi in August and are staying in the Suraj Kund area. We would love to go and see the Taj Mahal in moonlight. Are there any tours that cater to that facility. Also if we want to hire a car for a day in Delhi can we do it, how much would it cost and is it possible to go to the Taj mahal and come back to Suraj Kund in a day?

There are cars available for about Rs800 to 1200 depending on which type you hire and it is also possible to go to the Taj Mahal and back in one day too but not with your night viewing included which is only on five days near the full moon nights so you have to see when it is a full moon night and then two days before and two days after is all that is allowed for a separate entrance fee where you cannot go inside the Taj but just view it from a distance inside the gates. Hope this helps.

Cheers,
Aadil.

Tourists are allowed to view the Taj Mahal by moonlight on 5 nights in a month i.e the full moon night & 2 nights before & after that so in august that shld be around 7th to 11th August. Plan ur trip accordingly.
Its possible to do Delhi - Agra in a day. The distance is just 200 kms(one way) but it takes about 4 hrs each way.
A cab hired for moving around within Delhi wld cost abt Rs.800 - 1600 per day for the first 60 - 80 odd kilometres, depending on factors like whether air conditioning is there or not & which car u hire!
I'm not sure abt the exact cost of hiring a cab for Delhi Agra Trip - but expect to shell out at least Rs.5,000. Contact ur hotel reception - they shld be able to arrange a car for u.

follow this link for info on guided tour of Taj by moonlight :

Hope u hav a great time.
Cheers!

Taj Mahal on Friday

Most web pages say that Taj is free on Friday.
Lonely Planet and DK say Taj is closed on Friday.

Does anybody know the truth?

The Taj is a tomb and therefore a mosque. Friday is the Muslim holy day.

Taj is closed on Fridays. And a moonlight visit to Taj is open only about 5 days a month, during full moon I think.
