Are you going to go on the London Eye? It wasn't even built when I was there!

Hmmm, I used to go the cotswolds from Warwickshire, before my parents and I moved to Cornwall ...in 1967!
I'd guess at starting off on the A40, but I'd be as much in need of a map as you are. Actually, I do remember doing some trips there in the 70s, and I think that is what we did.

Tourists visiting London will have to accept that many places charge exorbitant entrance fees. London Zoo, for example, charges £17 for each adult, or £55 for a family ticket. The Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, Madame Tussauds and other popular attractions charge similar prices.
On the other hand, nearly all museums and galleries - including the National Gallery, Tate Modern, British Museum and the Museum of London - are free. |

Actually its less than I thought - it costs $160 (AUD) to climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge - takes an hour or 2 though..but still, too expensive for most of us locals (and I'm terrified of heights as well - I'd never go on the London Eye either..)

I don't like hights, and I went, for the first time, to the London Eye with some trepidation.
It was fine... You don't (or I didn't) feel like you do when you look over the edge from a cliff or high building. You are totally enclosed in the pod, it feels more secure than an airplane and the view is wonderful. I also loathe fairground stuff, but this has no uncomfortable motion, it is slow and gentle. The only time I felt the hight was on the way down, as we came level with the roof of the nearby building... only for a moment. |

And there's no way to pay less??....a pass or something...Mrs P, cant recall right now, was talking about some pass which lets you see some tourist destinations with it and that was quite cheap...i could be wrong and even if im right it could not cover the zoo at all...

A One Day Travelcard counts as a ticket, but an Oyster card does not. Bear in mind that London Zoo is more than just a zoo. It is run by The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity devoted to the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. Your entrance fee goes directly towards their very worthwhile work. |

Gosh... that could wipe out the benefit of an Oyster card in one go, especially if you are not using the trains every day!

Anyway, we Londoners generally try to keep Oyster cards as our little secret. Foreigners paying sky-high cash fares for buses and tubes provide the money for continued investment in our transport system. ![]() |

Oh right.
I guess I'm almost a foreigner these days! But on my last trip, I found an off-peak bus pass (£3.50) good enough for most of my trips. It is harder to get around a strange city (and London is pretty strange ) by bus, but good maps and routes are shown at the bus stops, and some of them are not in Tamil. |
