Studying at Jawaharlal Nehru University & in India
Hiya folks,
A friend of mine is thinking of spending 6 months to a year studying at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi as a part of her semester/year abroad programme. She has been to India twice before and loves it.
Does anybody have an opinion about how highly rated this particular school is in India? Does anyone on this forum know of anyone else who has studied there before? What is the general academic situation in India like? She is 22 & a student of development economics by the way..
We have checked the website of JNU and contacted a few of the Professors, but all the emails bounce back, so we aren't able to judge for ourselves. The Indian Embassy here in Helsinki isn't exactly very cooperative either :/
Any opinions or experiences would be much appreciated.
cheers!

JNU
Hi,
JNU is one of the few national universities (I think a total 6 or 7 in whole India) and probably one of the best in East and definetely at par with most of the well known universites in West.
The student of development economics generally study in Centre for Studies in Regional Development (CSRD) under SSS(School of Social Sciences) there.
The centre is well know through out the world for its student. But if u are thinking to join this school be prepared for many sleepless nights, and lot of hard work. In my time the CSRD was jokingly infamous as Centre for Suppression, Repression and Depression. One of the best centres of JNU.
Feel free to write if u have any particular question.
