One of the legacies of Margaret Thatcher's government.

Suppose you could call that having a human origin

That's the rant ...now I'll go and read the article.

But the front-page resume looks bad enough, suggesting that animal products were imported from India over a long period of time and that it included human remains

just read the front page, how gross, on another note, BSE is thought to be the "laughing disesase" from Papua New Guinea. My boyfriend got me a 1960s copy of Time and it documents the tradition of eating the brains of the dead as part of their burial. They had widespread problems with the disease. i was intrigued so looked it up ont he Internet and they now connect the "laughing disease" as a form of BSE.

The authors admitted their hypothesis is based on a compilation of circumstantial evidence. They wrote: "We do not claim that our theory is proved, but it unquestionably warrants further investigation."
That line pretty much sums up their "hypothesis". The only problem is that these animal feeds were imported to other parts of Asia as well. just wondering why the BSE was first found in UK. no idea.

it will only be a matter of time before some "expert" will come out and claim that the BSE will is an S.Asian disease just like SARS/Bird Flu = China and AIDS = Afirca. Why can't these people spend more time trying to find a cure for it?

It's pretty unnatural feeding herbivors animal products. We stopped eating dead relatives for a very good reason, now why force animals to do it?
