Since i'm staying in India for 3 weeks, I want to travel north...
The so called golden triangle seams a important tour to make, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur... Does anyone traveled there? Do you think is better to go by my one or to take an arranged tour from Dheli? |

Welcome
![]() A lot of people on this site will have travelled through those areas, they're all quite popular with tourists and you shouldn't have too much trouble if you wanted to do it on your own (you could travel Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Udaipur - Delhi on trains very easily and even cheaply, depending on the class you choose). If you're nervous about travelling alone or would just like some company, Intrepid travel runs "golden triangle" trips (links below) from Delhi to Agra, Jaipur and a few smaller places in between. Tons of other companies run similar trips but I've travelled with Intrepid and can recommend them (they're not too expensive, either) (budget version) http://intrepidtravel.com/trip.php?r...india&code=HAG (fancy version) http://intrepidtravel.com/trip.php?r...india&code=HAF |

Check out India Mike's hotel listings...
http://www.indiamike.com/india/listings.php? For Agra, we stayed at the Hotel Sheela. Small rooms, but very inexpensive and the gardens are a fantastic place to unwind. It's a great location too if you're planning to go to the Taj. It's about 100m from one of the entrance gates. |

I stayed at Arya Niwas in Jaipur. It was one of my favorite hotels during my 7-week trip.

I'll second the Sheela but not its not AC. Bus is a challenging way to travel distance in India although my first trip to the Taj was with my inlaws on such. There is a lot more than the Taj to see. I recommend the convenient train. Note that the area has a rep for industrial grunge culture and you might encounter this on the train. I did once. A few blistering sharp words in a half dozen Indian languages and the problems were sorted out. I always say travel with a marine drill instructor or my wife..

Agra - Oberoi Amarvilas
Providing you are not too limited from a budget perspective - the Oberoi Amarvilas is spectacular - 600 meters from the Taj Mahal and a beautiful place for a night.
You can see the two big sights in Agra (Taj Mahal and Agra Fort in one day) and spend the rest of the evening and the next day enjoying the spa/pool...and ambiance of this hotel. |

We stayed at the Jaypee Palace, which is a very clean, modern hotel with great restaurants - maybe a little clinical but hard to fault.
In one day you can also comfortably fit in (besides the Taj and the Fort) the Itmad-ud-Dullah tomb, which I highly recommend. It is exquisite and the pietra-dura stonework which covers it inspired the builders of the Taj. Interestingly, it was designed entirely by a woman. It's best to visit in the morning, as the the one bridge which crosses the Yamuna becomes very busy and crouded later in the day. So see the tomb first thing, then go back across the river to see the fort and the Taj.

I did the trip by train – was fine!
But I always would prefer taking a train than a bus because to me it seems to be the safer option. ;-) |
