Sponser a friend

I have a bit of a dilema, I met an 18 year old last time I was in India who I got on so very well with, he was like a little brother to me for the 10 weeks I stayed in this one guesthouse, anyway he was bright and I mean VERY bright, he clearly shouldent be serving tea and dal to loaded western kids like me (Im 29 BTW), for sure he could be a doctor engineer etc.... Well he told me that his school had lost his qualifications and therefore he was unable to continue his studies to a higher level.
So I was thinking of giving him money to further his education, after all I have done nothing of note in the world to date, and this guy is deserving I know.
What do you think? I know part of the reason is to massage my own ego/compassion etc you need not remind me of that

meet his family and such. Sad to say, there are a lot of stories in the big city Also a lot of ways that you can contribute to institutions that help kids just like your friend, where you KNOW the money is going, if not to someone you know, at least to an org. that helps them.

As much as I do like the guy the story has always reeked a little, It would be great to meet his family but unfortunatly they live in Darjeeling and I will only ever see him in either Karnataka or Himachal as he is a tranisient worker in tourism. But how likely is it that his qualifications would have been 'lost'?

Your probably right I should just give some money to an org, to aswage the 'guilt' of being a spoilt member of the world....
