Southern India
I will be going to India for four weeks in December, and then travelling from Trivandrum up to Delhi by train. My plan is to travel from Trivandrum to Kochi during the first two weeks, visit the backwaters and other attractions along the way, and then move on to Bangalore and Mysore, before catching a sleeper up to Delhi.
What will I need to do, which attractions must I visit and where should I stay to make this journey a memorable trip of a lifetime? |

Bangalore isn't anything more than a train station, for your trip. There's nothing of any note to see. And that's just about the only place in Karnataka that one can say that about. The rest of the state is chock full of cool stuff. check your guidebook, and go for it. It's all good. It's by far my favorite state in India. except for . . .

I second Bijapuri's opinions. What you may want to do in Karnataka
is to take a train to bangalore first, spend a few days in the state, there are awful lot of cool places to go to. You've got 1000+ year old temples, huge waterfalls, unending beauty of Sahyadri forests, places to hike/camp, very long unspoilt beaches (don't spoil them)..name it. Then, take a train to Bombay or Pune from where getting to Delhi is better/faster than doing so from bangalore. |

If I were you I would drop a note to our best friends in southern India, actually Chennai, who we worked with and took us around (me and my 3 friends) last February, all the way across Tamil Nadu and Kerala (extending to Mysore and Bengalore).
Here are their references > E-mail :bas_das@vsnl.net / basdas@vsnl.net. They'll be happy to help ! Good luck and enjoy India. From a French friend who lives in eastern France

I agree with Priya. Do the Nagerhole side and see some interesting wildlife. Jungle Inn at the main entrance of the Park is exteremely good. You can get contact from IM site on Hotels. If not e-mail me.
Coming from Bangalore I also agree that Bangalore has very little to offer. I have family there and so spend my time there but nothing worth spending time, sad to say. Good luck..

Nagarahole and Bandipur are wildlife reserves in Karnataka...aroung 5 to 5.5 hrs from Bangalore. I recently joined this resort near nagarahole...can send you the details, ONLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED!!! I really am not trying to sell here. I can also recommend other similar resorts in the area if you need to know. But a trip to Kabini (near the Nagarahole forest) is highly refreshing and picturesque...and good fun if you love wildlife.
