South to North India on bikes

Hi all,

Last month I was on a trip on motorbikes, with a friend of mine. It was a 25 day trip starting from Bangalore. We covered about 6500 Kms. And the intention was to travel from the southern tip of India till as much north as we could get to.
The route we took was:
Bangalore - Madurai - Kanyakumari - Madurai - Bangalore - Hyderabad - Nagpur - Sagar - Jhansi - Gwalior - Agra - New Delhi - Chandigarh - Mandi - Manali - Keylong - Pang - Leh - (Kardung La) - Kargil - Dras - Srinagar - Udhampur - Ambala - New Delhi.

And back to Bangalore on Train.

The trip was amazing, we tried out the food specialities of each of these places Idly dosas till parathas, visited many many places on the way, met many people, and much much more ....

We went thru some of the hottest places and some of the coolest places, Hot and humid south gave way to hotter central and north and chilling parts of Kashmir.

We met some awasome people, Army men, and men from Border roads Organisation(BRO), They were just too good.

The best part of the trip was ofcourse in Kashmir. The Manali - Leh road was awasome, I am sure those who have been there on bikes would remember there travel on this road. Kardungla was another place i'd cherish all along for the army and BRO men there. Kargil was in a way dry but Dras was like a holy site for us given that we visited Kargil Memorial, Tiger hill base camp, And the Mushkoh valley, Tololing and Pt 4875(I guess) were just there, went into many regiments and many Kannadiga soldiers stopped to talk to us esp after seeing the KA registeration plates on our bikes, that was an amazing expirence. Listened to many tales of the Kargil war from these army chaps. went to Amarnath yatra basecamp and had to get going to Srinagar. The Sonamarg was a cool place, then from Srinagar we headed to Udhampur over Patnitop and reached Ambala via Pathankot and further to Delhi.

I guess the Kashmir loop starting from manali was the best place i have travelled so far. If some of you are thinking of it ... just get a motorbike and move on ... its one expirence you will always cherish.

Cheers
Nag

I am in complete awe and admiration of you for completing such an amazing journey. This has been a dream trip of mine for years but I never thought it could be done. Please give more details about your time spent on the road and what routes you took. Once again, congratulations on the spectacular journey.

Thanks,

shpatel: We were on road for 22.5 days. the calculated average per day was about 300 Kms per day. There are many things we considered for the trip given that it was spread over different climate zones etc ....

Routes we took ... we mostly stuck to the highways as we were running on a schedule, but if there was some place of visit a lil away we did get to it. All south and until we reached Lakhanadon in MP we were on NH7 then on to NH26 till Jhansi and then a State Highway to Gwalior and then there are good roads till Mandi you will find directions easy.

shpatel, if you are planning to do this trip, then it will take a long time to plan out things and get commitments from ur friends etc .... so if u intend to do the trip then next year would be the best time to do it. And do write to me at nagakrishna_s@yahoo.com for anything u need. I can as well share my trip plan and other tips and much more ....

And this trip would certianly be the one i would want to remember....

Cheers
