south india in aug/sept
Hi, I am flying to Mumbai for a month in mid August, and have had conflicting info about the weather at this time of year. we were hoping to head south inland, and then travel back up the west coast in september. Will it be bearable at this time of year, or does anyone have any better suggestions for us, bearing in mind we are on a budget of about $20 a day.
Cheers |

yes, it should be all right weatherwise, just expect clouds, rain and the odd downpour! But should be nice and green! In fact places like Goa will even be cheap since its off season! But Goa in the monsoons is great!! Have fun!

Dont get bogged down by the rain bit, India is always bright and sunny compared to some other places in the world!

We are going to South East India (flying into Chennai in July). From what I can gather the weather is good in the South East during the Monsoon months in the north and there is plenty to see and do in this section. Maybe you could head down there for some sunshine?

I'd be careful to say what is "good"! South India is VERY HOT from April through August since it doesn't rain as much. You can easily expect temperatures of 40+ C inland anytime during this period, and the coasts compensate for this by their humidity. The east coast can be oppressively hot and humid during the dry season. However,if you're going to any high-elevation areas, then it'll be pleasant.
The best time to visit South India is November through March. It does rain, but the heat is far more tolerable. |
