Farewell to Nova Scotia ... a local classic of unknown authorship & recorded by many artists.

We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time. ~

<That is a nice tune, Peak.>
Wow. I'll have mentioned before Apocalyptica's version of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters." Finnish cello combo, there'd be no lyrics here, since what they do is instrumental, although the original would. Beautiful song the way they perform it, btw.
Now watch Shakira having a go at it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EPgElESKtZw.

I'm not so big on all the overdone exclamation marks here and stuff, but in no mind to edit them out, either. Wonder if Marley had meant it that way, it's just what you'll find on the web. Either way, it remains a splendid song of course:
Quote:
Man... of course the one leads to the other, and so getting back to Marley, this lead me to check out some more videos of live performances by him and such.
What does one call such a person? A "presence"? That is what he was. Gets you going, right there. And in the here-and-now.

A really enjoy most of Marley's 'later' work - there's really a night & day difference between that & his earlier stuff. I'm mostly drawn to the emotion & intensity of his performances though - to be honest most of the lyrics do not speak to me & he might as well be singing 'Mary had a little lamb' as far as I could care ... because it's all in the vibes which are almost always electrifying in from what I've heard & seen.
Aye, Peak. His lyrics speak to me, as well (unsurprisingly), but you otherwise gave a good description.
From the something completely different department, Bauhaus here, "Crowds":

Not strictly lyrics really, Arthur Rimbaud's "Le coeur volé."
Notoriously and inherently hard to translate, I'm not aware of any good English translation of it. But looking just now came across the below, not a bad attempt at it. Whilst seemingly just a genious (and at the time scandalous) play on words, it takes on a lot more bitter realism in the knowledge that apparently it was written inspired by his having been raped, either whilst actually sailing, or perhaps hanging out in some sailor's bars, I forget the details.
Dutch band De Kift performed it as a song in the masterful (Dutch) translation by Hans van Pinxteren, a live outtake of which is here.

That's funny, Dave.
I don't know, I've often looked for the edge. The above was something like a memory of that. (Sado-masochism I've never been involved with, btw. But, well, and I suppose I can understand such urges. Strange power structures in relationships, yes, don't we all run into them. I've certainly managed to take my sexuality pretty far in other ways. Sorry if that's too much information.)
I try to be much more contained now. Sort of succeed, but not always. Anyway, IndiaMike is no place to resolve it, either.
Songs just naturally pop into my head, and that is why I once started this thread
I'm always interested to see what songs pop into others'.

I never thought of "Tell Laura I Love Her" as anything other than a bad taste joke, slightly sanitised for a radio audience. The real sickos just never made it onto the air. My all time fave Death record has to be "I want my baby back" by Jimmy Cross.

And before you ask I don't include grave robbing or necrophilia on my Who's Who list of pastimes.
By the way mach, which forum do you recommend for that "other" stuff?

PS I hope that Ivana is not shocked by these revalations.

Yes, Dave, we could get into it some more later

It looks like the movie on (and by?) him Cha-Cha is online here (not to be confused with the album of that name), fantastic stuff. Featuring Nina Hagen and Lene Lovich and then some: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cw2HbSR50h4.

Survivor Burning Heart Lyrics
http://www.lyricsfreak.com/s/survivo..._20134342.html
Two worlds collide
Rival nations
It's a primitive clash
Venting years of frustrations
Bravely we hope
Against all hope
There is so much at stake
Seems our freedom's up
Against the ropes
Does the crowd understand?
Is it East versus West
Or man against man
Can any nation stand alone
CHORUS
In the burning Heart
Just about to burst
There's a quest for answers
An unquenchable thirst
In the darkest night
Rising like a spire
In the burning heart
The unmistakable fire
In the burning heart
In the warriors code
There's no surrender
Though his body says stop
His spirit cries - never!
Deep in our soul
A quiet ember
Knows it's you against you
It's the paradox
That drives us on
It's a battle of wills
In the heat of attack
It's the passion that kills
The victory is yours alone
CHORUS (sing chorus 3 times)
In the burning heart

Hopefully nobody is going to read anything dodgy into the lyrics of this good old Northern Soul classic - "The Snake" by Al Wilson.
On Her Way to Work One Morning
Down the Path Along Side the Lake
A Tender Hearted Woman Saw a Poor Half Frozen Snake
His Pretty Colored Skin Had Been All Frosted With the Dew
"Poor Thing," She Cried, "I'll Take You in and I'll Take Care of You"
"Take Me in Oh Tender Woman
Take Me In, For Heaven's Sake
Take Me In, Tender Woman," Sighed the Snake
She Wrapped Him All Cozy in a Comforter of Silk
And Laid Him By Her Fireside With Some Honey and Some Milk
She Hurried Home From Work That Night and Soon As She Arrived
She Found That Pretty Snake She'd Taken to Had Bee Revived
"Take Me In, Oh Tender Woman
Take Me In, For Heaven's Sake
Take Me In, Tender Woman," Sighed the Snake
She Clutched Him to Her Bosom, "You're So Beautiful," She Cried
"But If I Hadn't Brought You in By Now You Might Have Died"
She Stroked His Pretty Skin Again and Kissed and Held Him Tight
Instead of Saying Thanks, the Snake Gave Her a Vicious Bite
"Take Me In, Oh Tender Woman
Take Me In, For Heaven's Sake
Take Me In, Tender Woman," Sighed the Snake
"I Saved You," Cried the Woman
"And You've Bitten Me, But Why?
You Know Your Bite Is Poisonous and Now I'm Going to Die"
"Oh Shut Up, Silly Woman," Said the Reptile With a Grin
"You Knew Damn Well I Was a Snake Before You Took Me in
"Take Me In, Oh Tender Woman
Take Me In, For Heaven's Sake
Take Me In, Tender Woman," Sighed the Snake

Had we done this one yet? If anyone knows of a better English translation, bring it on. I'm not quite happy with what I'm finding, but it will have to do for now.
