Wow. I'll have mentioned before Apocalyptica's version of Metallica's "Nothing Else Matters." Finnish cello combo, there'd be no lyrics here, since what they do is instrumental, although the original would. Beautiful song the way they perform it, btw.

What does one call such a person? A "presence"? That is what he was. Gets you going, right there. And in the here-and-now.

A really enjoy most of Marley's 'later' work - there's really a night & day difference between that & his earlier stuff. I'm mostly drawn to the emotion & intensity of his performances though - to be honest most of the lyrics do not speak to me & he might as well be singing 'Mary had a little lamb' as far as I could care ... because it's all in the vibes which are almost always electrifying in from what I've heard & seen.

Notoriously and inherently hard to translate, I'm not aware of any good English translation of it. But looking just now came across the below, not a bad attempt at it. Whilst seemingly just a genious (and at the time scandalous) play on words, it takes on a lot more bitter realism in the knowledge that apparently it was written inspired by his having been raped, either whilst actually sailing, or perhaps hanging out in some sailor's bars, I forget the details.

Dutch band De Kift performed it as a song in the masterful (Dutch) translation by Hans van Pinxteren, a live outtake of which is here.

I don't know, I've often looked for the edge. The above was something like a memory of that. (Sado-masochism I've never been involved with, btw. But, well, and I suppose I can understand such urges. Strange power structures in relationships, yes, don't we all run into them. I've certainly managed to take my sexuality pretty far in other ways. Sorry if that's too much information.)

I never thought of "Tell Laura I Love Her" as anything other than a bad taste joke, slightly sanitised for a radio audience. The real sickos just never made it onto the air. My all time fave Death record has to be "I want my baby back" by Jimmy Cross.
