I love the SMS text-messaging facility! It is a wonderful way to send short messages.

e-mail has resurrected letter writing; SMS is just another way of communicating. SMS is hardly the place to get wordy, but we do not have to become incomprehensible, and we do not have to use what is appropriate to SMS in other forms.

So why aren't you typing Short Message Service each time?
Surely the very first bit of SMS-speak is - SMS?

Regular rant...

No, No, No, No, NO...

It is not an acronym, as it cannot be pronounced as a word. both TLA and SMS are abbreviations!

Send a message via AIM to Ignite
Before India Mike, the only time I did'nt use SMS was when I had a paper due for school, but now I've been on India Mike so much that I don't use SMS language even on cell phone texting, and it actually bugs me when a friend texts me in the SMS language.

TLA = three letter abbreviation!

well, OK, TLA is a three-letter abbreviation, but can refer to three letter acronyms, but its origin was the joke line ...The last thing we need is more TLAs.

It was always a joke to techies: the marketing people probably took it seriously!

I have never understood sms language for sms-ing even. Usually I type an sms, it is too long and then I spend ten minutes changing it into some sort of sms-language. It takes ages! By that time I am usually fed up and think I should have better called in the first place if I have so much to say...
