similarity between abroad n india
Hello Friends,,
This thread is to know something about abroad, outside india, most people in india have misconceptions about abroad being extremely clean, professional cities having state of art technologies, emergency services, etc.
Do tell us something about real life in abroad.
I feel life in abroad is not that different from that in India.
People think indians are superstitious, there are people doing black magic, but in abroad also, there is wicca, witchcraft, ouja boards, halloween etc, so people abroad also are superstitious, in one or other way.
Have you ever tried using ouja boards, what was your real experience, because many times I heard if something goes wrong you bear the consequences.
Also in india as for diwali there is sales, discounts, in abroad its more height, people line up since midnight to get black friday, christmas deals, sales etc.
even in abroad there is crime, cheating, etc,,
Tell something more about your country which is somewhat similar to what is happening in india,

India is nothing like "abroad"
That's why we from abroad go to India!
Yes, we have all the things you mention here in the U.S. like people who are superstitious & we have most every religion in the world, including some recent made-up ones, that are called "cults."
Our country is much cleaner than India, though we also still have alot of types of pollution, mostly from burning coal, we have better public services but it's quite impossible to make comparisons. We have many, many fewer people, much less crowded and on and on.
In my opinion, to live and travel in India (this is mainly a travel website though we also have a bit of every kind of conversation going on) is 180 degrees different than anywhere in my country, even though we have people and places that in some ways are the same.
Come see for yourself! Or maybe someone who used to live in India but now lives abroad can say what is different (& the same).

Any country that is not India is "abroad". Which country(countries) do you want to know about? I doubt scandanavian countries and subsaharan countries will have similar public infrastructure. "They" don't use mugs/tumblers "abroad".
If at first you don't succeed, try management

In these aspects you are wrong.Life in the US is NOTHING like life in India.
But there are so many dis- simmilarites, it would be hard to put in a post.
Maybe enough to fill up an Encyclopedia.
For me, India is like going to Mars. Theres no place like it. Definitely an adventure and soo different from the US in most ways.

for me also. And DrHeckle, unless a mug/tumbler is something different than we have here in the U.S., We do use them here. Here a mug is simply a large cup made of any material with a handle.
A tumbler a. A drinking glass, originally with a rounded bottom.
b. A flat-bottomed glass having no handle, foot, or stem
Also made of any material.
camelgirl, I was trying to be , er, discreet and erm, funny
..... I was writing about the usage of a tumbler (locally referenced to as a "lota", or a "tumbrel" in Marathi) full of water used in India, as opposed to paper. Search the term "lota parade" on this site and you'll get the picture (hopefully after you've had your breakfast).

You're right mate. Speaking as an expat, in this part of abroad, I find that life here is not very different from India, apart from: - honesty in business, honesty in general
- Cleanliness in the streets
- no bias based on skin
- emphasis on achieving rather than 'doing'
- treating disabled as equals
- no nepotism
- rating real effort as good rather than whoever is a better sycophant
- small time greed (adulterated food and drinks)
- 2 PM means 2 PM (Of the right day!)
- minding ones own business
- no ones right just because they are old
- equality to women
- girls wearing skirts doesn't get them 'eve teasing'
- You cant hear the neighbor's television
- no paan spit anywhere
- no unsolicited advice giving
- telephones work ... all the time!
- garbage is packed in bags
- people are health conscious - they run, bike a lot
- medicine is treatment rather than sadhu's miracle powders
- buying tampons, condoms etc do not involve stammering, pointing, blushing and other kiddy acts
- no one calls you after 9 PM
- no one scratches 'everywhere' in public
- many other things... that I cant think of right now
rest of the life is not that different, yes.
I need your clothes, your boots and your motorcycle.
...
....

Great to see your input here, Indo, as well as on my very own country for that matter
Which reminds me: We shall and must meet before I return to yours!
