Iam a frequent shortwave listener here in the Netherlands and would like to set up a SWL Station by my Mother-in law in Mangalore and send the stations that I hear a SWL-card.....

Are there a lot of shortwave stations there in India and how it's to be a shortwave listener in India ?

the equipment what I us in Amsterdam is IC-R7000 and Kenwood R5000
and antenna 5 Elements Long-John Yagi.

hope to hear from anybody

Terry

That may not work out here.
Instead buy her worldspace, the satellite radio.
It has nearly 20 channels including Kannada & Hindi.

You might want to check out cr-india -- A list on community radio in India for like-minded people (courtesy of Sarai). DARES (Dutch Amateur Radio Emergency Service) might also be able to help you along.

I mean not radio stations (programs) but amateur radio stations which are talking with other HAM-radio amateurs around the world. expl. I hear a HAM-radio station here in the netherlands speaking with a HAM-radio amateur in America so I send both stations a SWL Card with teh signal how strong the wehere and i get a card back from both stations.

Like the BBC .

It is very good.

But the OP is talking about a two-way, international communicaton thing, rather than listen to information/entertainment.

The list I mentioned is not a list of stations, it's a discussion list about community radio in India.

For a bit of something else by way of web radio check out http://vrijeradio.tk/ and http://radio.indymedia.org/ .

Terry take a look at this site for Ham radio enthusiasts in India maybe you could ask the folks there about your hobby!
Ham Radio India

A quick google search under the terms Ham Radio India threw up a few more possiblities!

Hope that helps!

Terry

You need various licences to set up your rig in India. it would involve some bribes and a lot of footwork. I suggest that you check on this when you arrive in India. Setting up in India is not as easy as the US or Europe

I have a IC-7800 in Hong Kong and hope to take it over to Mumbai sometime this year. I was told that I can only receive but if I was caught transmitting I would be fined 50,000 rupees. In India my interest is mainly the police band and the air band. I have no intention to transmit although it would be nice.
I am in contact with my local MLA and hopefully he should be able to help.

Bill
