Shopping
Is India worth it from a purely "shopping experience"point of view...I understand the country has many other charms to behold..and I wont be negelecting them. But I do wonder about the shopping side of things is it really as cheap and vast as im led to believe?

Of course! we are in Jaipur which is one of the best shopping destinations. But like all places which attract tourists who want to shop, Jaipur has its shares of touts and scams. Our advice is to visit the Government emporium first to get an indication of the fair prices and then, if you like, visit other shops where you can bargain since by now you will have some idea of what things should cost!

I think so!
But I don't buy handicrafts or other standard tourist stuff.
I have purchased, over the years, CDs of Indian music (great selection in most cities); spectacles (Lawrence and Mayo in Delhi and Goa - very good value and professional service); computer books and magazines plus some small electrical devices like mains adaptors. In most cases the saving was at least 20% - with the books it is nearer 50% (but then the paper is poorer quality). |
