Scheduled Chat Sessions?

Will it be a good idea to have scheduled chat sessions? For Example, an IMer has just concluded a major India trip or covered a major destination, and he announces a chat session at 9PM EST. Hordes of interested IMers join in, and bombard the main guy with questions. lot of information exchange in quick time.

or we can also have chat sessions on a specific subjects. e.g. Trains to Northeast, or Touts in Delhi.

Comments? Suggestions? Good ? Bad?

does this go against the permanent nature of information in a thread?

p.s. Vasko, Conor M and I had a rather lengthy chat yesterday evening IST. quite a nice experience, chatting up with fellow IMers! ( Vasko, yes, we are bragging about it in the main forum as you said! ). it is always good to have 3-4 people in a chat session rather than a one-to-one.

I'm up for it - maybe can collect some buddies for my list along the way.
The only thing I find really disorienting is the totally out of sequence conversation style.

Hi Bigzero and others,

Ok, here we are bragging about it. It was fun and I'm glad the chat area is up and running.

I think having some scheduled chat sessions is an idea worth trying. I like the idea that it would revolve around somebody's experiences or a specific topic.

I don't have that much chat experience, but I have noticed that when the group size increases, the chat splits up into smaller chats between 2-3 people. Then you have a bunch of conversations overlapping, which is interesting in a way, but it is impossible to contribute to all of them.

And to see who is in the chat room at any given moment, click on the "Forums" link and scroll down to the bottom of the page to see a list of the members inside...

Here in India many are already working in sync with at leat two time zones ( the east & west). I dont know when to sleep (really). Day starts at 7AM and end at 11pm. some time we have to work overtime too We are already having jet lag working at the office.

Insomnia or something like that is a vanity disease here. More trouble in in wating...

Anyway I've started a free pub right the corner (Beach's free pub !!). All are welcome when you get bored. In any debate no one disagree when someone says 'let's have a beer'

hey beach, ask mira4bai4 - touting is a positive and inevitable part of being a human being! Accept it and your fellow touts with a smile!
ps. I agree with him, also that there are good touts and bad touts...

I think the schedualed chats are a great idea...I was playing around the site yesterday and ran into Vasko and Bigzero..couldn't stay because I was really on my way out the door...but for that few minutes, I could really see the potential for this.
Of course the time zones will pose a challenge for us all...but now we know Beach is an insomniac, all will go well!

It's a great idea, though it could be badly timed.

Lots of people are trying to cram 30 hours into every day at the moment, Christmas is close and if many people are like me, they still have a hundred things to do before Saturday.

If I'm on-line when a group is chatting, I'll join in, (dont know if thats a plus or a minus )
