Rickshaw Run

Rickshaw Run - Christmas 2006

Right IM'ers.... I thought I might post this....to entertain the masses.

http://www.rickshawrun.com

Its basically an auto race from trivandrum to darjeeling. I know a guy who did a similar mongolia rally in a Citroen 2CV last year. http://www.mongoliaorbust.com, and this is the new wacky race that is being organised by the same people for later this year.

It still being planned, so maybe the IMers here can give some advise to these guys....I have mentioned this website to them....so expect some new members soon.

I'm still thinking about entering

I know about a guy who bought a rickshaw. This must've been about 2-3 yrs. back. He obviously bought it either from hyderabad or any of the southern states (The southern states have much more colorful ricks with rajnikanth or whatever they feel like) photos anybody? Anyway this guy purchased the rickshaw & bought it till Mcleodganj(Dharamshala) where we met. He was thinking to take it up till Parvati valley. We had some interesting conversations as he told the various experiences he went through. Interesting chap. Don't know what happened afterwards.

I looked into buying one here and got no joy from the manufacturers. I had mad thoughts of driving it around India as our tour vechicle with the option of taking it back over land to Ireland. Then I got engaged and expensive long term plans had to go out the window

I think from reading the Holy Cow book that the Irish ambassador in Delhi has his own for commuting about.

I meant to ask u what did u mean by no getting no joy from manufacturers. As far as people who manufacture rickshaws its either Bajaj or Tata Motors with Bajaj through the whole value chain while Tata is only into electric rickshaws.

I cleared my cookies and 'files' and the connections work now (and my computer seems to have speeded up).

I tried contacting Bajaj a number of times, I had to ensure that the emission levels would be low enough to enable me to drive it through europe.

But, I never got any responses.
