Really Nice Shawls
Some time ago, I picked up a beautifully patterned, soft as snow shawl in Amritsar for about 4000rps. A lady friend has admired it for some time, and now that I am going, has requested I find her one that is equally nice. I found mine in a shop that normally doesn't carry shawls, the guy just happened to have it.
Question: Where in either Delhi or Amritsar (or Kathmandu if I get a ticket) can I find really nice shawls in this price range? What the material actually is, is not as important as the look and feel. The shawl guys around the Golden Temple never have anything this nice, as I scour their stock every visit. Any tips, suggestions, guideline etc. most welcome. thanks ![]()

Thanks Aziz. If I get to KTM I will certainly be shopping in Thamel. I know there are some serious shoppers on IM, so I'm curious to see where people recommend in India.

I usually go to the state emporiums in Delhi (Baba Karak Singh Marg) for shawls; the ones made in Kullu (buy at the HP Emporium) are wonderfully soft merino wool and come in great colors. I don't believe I spent as much as Rs 4000 on any one shawl.
If you know where the shawl you bought previously is from, you can go to that state's emporium. Cottage Industries Emporium (Janpath) also has shawls from every state. |

I spent a month in Kathmandu and did serious pashmina scarf shopping when I was there. PM me if you want advice--Thamel has quite the range of quality and not everything that is advertised as pashmina is...
