Why do people (especially Indian men) always seek a FEMALE companion? and not a LADY companion?
Female seems to be a more sexist word (No, I am NOT a feminist!!!!).

thanx for your prompt reply....you have confirmed my doubt about the Indian men - they are single track minded! (atleast most of them are!)
I guess you are right.......I used to think that Indian women were the best in bitching....but a trip with some Kiwi's changed my views forever!

In my opinion
A Lady is elegant, smart, polite, will never offend and will always do the right thing............
boring..
Give me an un-controlable, loud-mouthed, wild, wisky drinking woman.......much more fun.

In this modern age men basically have no clue as to how to refer to a woman anymore. Is lady dignified and courtious, or demeaning? Is chick fun or a put down? Depends on whom you ask. Female is a pretty safe bet. Just my 2 rps worth.

I see nothing wrong with Female......Lady......Woman... ...Sheela.....Chick.....Ol' Lady......Babe......Girl.....N o mater the name as long as it's not said with a condesending tone, I wouldn't be offended.
I had worked at a bar a few years ago and had a little old man New York who used to call me "Goiley" (NY for Girlie) I thought it was endearing....... To each his own.
BTW Steven......I'll drink to that!

jjacque, its 'sheila' not 'sheela'. I found English girls thought to be called a sheila was cute wheras an Australian girl would be a little offended unless it was made clear that you were joking.
I consider every female is a lady until she confirms otherwise, I don't do very well with the sheilas, maybe that is the problem??

Hmm ... bit lost on this one but your message subject insists on a reply so here goes (and please no-one kill me for this:-)
rab: I am British and reckon most females are "birds" and usually "nice" with it. Ladies can be nice "birds" but usually are a bit older, not too old or they are "old birds" which is affectionate but perhaps a little derogatory. Mrs rab reckons she is is more a female than a lady, and as she is Aussie more a Sheila than a bird.
Mrs rab: all men, gentlemen, geezers, blokes, mates, chaps, Bruces, amigos, fellows are all really one thing - just BOYS!!!!!
(tongue now removed from cheek btw!)
P.S. Mrs rab: I also hate in Britain that at work. women are referred to as Mrs and Miss. It should be Ms, as this is a modern way of referring to women without drawing attention to maritial status - just like the term Mr. Mrs sounds so old Ma'amish.

rather a demanding title, but I'll bite.
I think there are probably a lots of variations in terms to reply to the opposite sex depending upon context. For instance, mountaingirl, if you were having a few drinks with your girlfriends, how do you refer to men?
