Question about Canadian nationals
Hi EveryBody..
I am glad I could find this forum. I have a question for you guys. I am a canadian resident born and brought up in India. I moved to canada in 2000 and became a canadian citizen in 2004. I want to move back to india for few years for kids education as it is loads better then here. My question is will I be able to work in india with Canadian citizenship. Will it be benificial or a hindrance, I have no idea sitting here in toronto. We plan to be either in Delhi or Bangalore. My parents are still in India and indian national. Thanks a lot in Advance Abhishek |

Yes you can
I think you can work in India and good idea will be get the PIO card from the Indian High commission in Toronto.
You can look at working in corporate sector and best way will be float your resume just few weeks before you land here and with an Indian phone number to contact. Maybe you can land up in Delhi or B'Lore (ideally where your parents are living) and then be prepared for relocating tpo a city where you find the job. Other option can be contacting some of the Canadian Govt agencies working in India and exploring opportunities to work with them. Apart from all this, I'm sure you understand that the level of education is very different in India from Canada and I hope your kids don't get stressed out trying to cope-up with the higher level. So I feel its better to start preparing them for this. One of my friend in Hong Kong used to get school books of same class/standard from India for his son and used make him work bit extra on these topics.

Thanks a lot Vinay and digvijay for your replies.
Yes I did figure out last night that I could get a PIO from Indian High commision in Ottawa. And one gets it for 15 years, thats such a relief. My 2 kids are 3 yrs and 1 month old. So the elder would be starting school next year. I will not be winding things here just yet. I will let wife and kids go and see how they are coping up with life in India. I have a strong desire that I bring my kids up there (Schooling). They are canadians and will eventually be attracted towards better quality of life in canada. We as parents think that we should provide best possible education foundation which will help them for rest of there lives. Also vinay tell me some good schools in Noida. DigVijay right now money is not the motivation but yes I would like to earn something so that I can bring up my family in india. I know I cannot have the same life style of what I am having in canada. Here are my credentials, tell me how I will fare in india, as I have very little experience working in India. Also tell me few sites for job search... I did my Baclelor's in Engg from REC bangalore. I did a Diploma in MBA from IMT GZB (Could not go on to complete it as i had to move to canada - 1 Year). I am doing M.Engg in Comp Sc(Comp Networks) from top university in canada. I dont plan to move until 2007. By then I would have close to 9 years of IT experience. Dig vijay I did not understand what you were trying to say..Also I dont want them to be in the Hostel for very long.. P.S Don't yu think it is YUR responsibility that yur children don't need to do anything ... Why make them work hard at all...?? Thanks a lot once again. Abhishek |

So DigVijay you have a negative thinking towards life, What are your credentials will you mind telling.. How on earth you say the canadian qualifications is nought.. Mind you.. Schooling in india is good, Universities are way better abroad except IIT and IIM. So you are trying to say I will not be earning 1000 canadian or 30,000 RS/month.. or did you mean something else by 1000 canadian position. Where exactly are you in India.

Thanks Digvijay.. for all your encouragment.. Your post are kinda funny and surprising, your profile says you are only 24 after IIT and IIM and this is what you have to say...
(and never knew rec bangalore existed )... ( bad benchmark made at ug, candian uni not top shot, mba abondoned unclear goals, went to canada for a low rated uni, escapist ) just because you were lucky to have gone to TOP school in India. Thanks any ways for your wishes.. |

Peace
Abhishek,
As you are looking at 2007 to move back, its a long time and you never know how things move in next 2-3 years, both professionally and pesonally. However, since you are in IT and will have around 9 yrs of work behind you. If you are looking at an Indian IT company to work for, one good position would be Pre-sales for international customers. Here your stay, education and work experience of Canada will be useful. The fact that you have worked in western society and know how to handle western customers combined with strong IT knowledge in your area of specialisation, will be an asset for you to move into this position. Just wondering, why are you moving back from canada? is it just education of kids? so many people from India are applying daily to migrate to Canada, and you coming back? |

Hi Vinay,
Thanks for the reply and some encouraging words, Yes its just the education of kids as I said, wife and kids would be going before hopefully in 2005 and i would be joining them around 2007. I know its a long time and things may very well change in India. But we can always go back. Also we plan to provide education till grade 10 in india. The education system and level of studies at junior level in public school here is just not good enough. And decent private schools are killing in fees $10000 anually. But they are good though. We are thinking of Amity or DPS in Noida. Are those school good. Digvijay, after going through your different posts I feel you have a logic behind posting. As I have joined in recently I took you as a negative thinker, you were only cautioning me and i took you other wise I aplogize for that. Thanks guys for helping. Also what are the taxing senario in India on salaries. Say if some body earning 6 - 8 laks p.a what is the take home amount. Abhishek |

just my two yen......
i was born and raised in canada. the canadian education system is a complete joke. i think that you could be doing a wonderful thing by taking your kidlets to india for schooling. you have lots of time and this is only one place to get the info you need to make the right choices for your family. i think there are many canadians who also would like to send their kids abroad for schooling. you are not alone! good luck to you!!

On a related note, my work allows me to do it anywhere in the world. All i need is a laptop and a high-speed internet connection. If I were to stay in India for a year or two, would I be obligated to pay taxes if my income is from a foreign source?
Thanks |
