posting items to india

hello all

I'm travelling to goa on the 2nd of January but unfortunately my driving licence hasn't been processed yet. What sort of delay should I expect when my parents post it from Ireland?

Also is it possible to have it posted to a central or specific post office and pick it up from there? its just that I don't want to commit myself to a hotel / guesthouse and have to stay there until my licence arrives.

thanks in advance

I haven't used the post much in recent years but it used to take about a week for mail to reach India. It depends where you are of course - the big cities would be faster but to Goa should take about a week.

Post Restante at the post offices used to be very reliable - in most cases they would let you sort through it yourself and if you found something your passport would be checked against the mail.

If you're not sure where you're going to be staying this is probably your best bet.

I would think Mapusa would probably be the nearest mainish post office to Vagator, or failing that Panaji. I reckon you have a better chance of getting mail if its sent to a main PO than a small town one.

hi charras
just give a hotel address the first one that you are gonna stay at.
If it arrives in time good , else ask the manager to courier it to you , yu can just call in later give the other hotel address and ask the previous hotel owner to courier it.best service is bluedart. They have a tracking mechanism as well. In 24 hrs you will recieve it. charges will be around 300rs or less for a DL.
hope that helps
