Posting gifts (alcohol) to India

Im just back from spending 3 months in India and would very much like to post a gift to an Indian family that i spent some time with. The gift will consist of a few bottles of Irish whiskey. Is it possible to get a parcel like this through customs??

Yes, in of the forms below

a) never gets through customs i.e. confiscated
b) gets through to them empty (somebody drunk them & you know who) and they have wicked sense of humour(i.e. to make sure they were liquor, they tasted the bottles & then sent them through)
c) one soggy, boozy smelling delivery(surprise, surprise; broken bottles) which makes your hosts think highly of you. :-)
d) most miraculous event, an actual delivery as you have wished.

Seriously, highly unlikely. Short of personel delivery, it would be quite difficult. assuming even if you sent it through someone to post it in India, private courier companies would be chary to pick up the parcel. & if you factor in the cost, you're better off getting it duty-free in India and then getting it done.

Of course, you can disregard my advice as I have no clue about what I'm talking about!

I will duplicate Digital Drifter. No chance. I did once maneuver a parcel through customs with the able guidance of one of the best fixers in India. Took 2 days and only 12 Rupes chai money but got 35 rolls of color film through. Not on site and so obvious a value, no chance..
