Looked like a good challenge to me so looked in several online Hindi-English dictionaries and the nearest I got to was as an adjective describing (someone as) forthright, famous, strong, or competent.
Now watch some scholar come on here and tell us it means "brake cable"!!!!! |

Hmmm....one meaning in Hindi is 'to fill-up' or 'to compensate' depends on where you use it. Its not very common word and 'Poorti' also exists in Bengali, Nepali, and other indian languages, with the same (or near same meaning).
For example: Say A bought a bag of rice from B and asked to be delivered at his place. While delivering there the bag had a hole and some amount(say 2 Kgs) of rice was lost. Now A calls up B and complains. And he asks B to send 2kgs of rice which was lost. He can say this in Hindi " Mere 2kg ka nuksan ki to poorti kar do' Hope this helps cheers Vinay

I think it means "to complete", "to fulfill".

Poorti is not completely a hindi word...its roots is in sanskrit and its exact meaning in the context of a name would be content or fulfilled...so if a person is called poorti then it probably means he or she would go on to live a life which is content oand fulfilled....in the context of a verb it would mean to compensate...
