Thanks for the compliments people. We did have a wonderful trip.

Did you have more luck in Ranthambhore on the morning or afternoon safaris. How many did you do?
We only did one full day jeep (6 seater) safari. We had the best luck in the morning (including the tiger withing the first 2 hours). In the afternoon - after having our break at the end of trail 4 in the park - there were fewer animals around. Unfortunately the guides also seemed less excited in the arvo.
And despite what people say, I would definately avoid the canters. There was definately evidence that they scare away some of the animals. Maybe not the tigers, because the one we saw you could probably poke it with a stick and it would continue lying there.

Any equipment tips for me
Well if you knew what I used you would laugh.
I have a Canon S5IS (yep, not even an SLR) with wide lens attachment. It is fairly functional with built in 6-72mm lens but only 8MP. Anyway, I think the point about any place is that is it not about the camera. Sure a good bit of equipment helps, but I saw plenty of "experts" with expensive gear taking video and photos that not even closest relatives would want to look at.

What was the rest area like? Was it a bit dull? How long in between safaris?

Definately not, I've used a Canon A80 fairly successfully for years. I got some cracking shots with it.

Absolutely, it's all about subject matter, composition and light, as you've proved admirably. If I can take some pics as good as yours I'll be happy.

Do you mean the rest of the town?
We only went to Ranthambhore (SM) for one day, just for the safari, so we are probably not the best to ask this. There was about 2 hours in between ours, but we spent it deep in the park.
Other groups return to town and come back in the afternoon. I think it depends on which trail and whether you are on a jeep or canter - but I'm sure someone here can provide more info. I just booked online and hoped for the best.

No, sorry, I meant the rest area they take you to between the morning and afternoon safaris. But another post yesterday/today mentioned that there was a toilet and a place to buy drinks. They also said that you stay in the same zone for the full day, which I guess could be another reason to book a morning and an afternoon safari seperately. Still, you got to see the tigers.

But no-one mentions Leopards. Are there any there?

This thread is for talking about the photo-of-the-month system, winners, etc --- not for posting photos!

How does one vote for photo of the month? Is there a special button?
Or is it decided by normal voting?

I ask because I see that two of the wonderful photos of the month received no votes in May, which I would have thought was needed for them to get Photo of the Month in June.

I guess it's not that simple.

There is an algorithm that selects the Photos of the Month. It's based on the votes each photograph receives within 30 days of its posting.
