I'm not exactly sure when paradise turns into nostalgia but for me my fave place to be, remains Palolem, even after all that has gone on there, the countryside is still staggering!!

Well, paradise found & gone (?) (hmm nostalgia) .
Though i've seen glimpses of it in Pushkar, Tansen, Bhagsu & Patnem . On the roof of the local bus through the indian country-site comes close . Last edited by dreamsyndicate : Jun 17th, 2004 at 02:23. |

Mala,
Your knowledge of all things Indian sometimes amazes me and on one or two occasions it even has me wondering if you have been to India. (That is a complement) Then you post a comment like that in post 10, and I'm re-assured that you haven’t been to India. Everywhere in India seems different, yet somehow they all feel Indian, you will never understand till you've been. Scenery you can get anywhere, but scenery with all that India has to offer is totally different. I am surprised at your comment, I gathered from your posts that you have a fondness for (amongst others) Indian clothes, food & Bollywood films (lots would have been set in the hills), you will not find these things in British Columbia, Scotland, Switzerland or New Zealand. My individual paradise would have to be the small Gujarati village I stayed in, a truly mind-blowing experience.

I have been sitting here for a while trying to work out my "paradise"- I can't choose just one! Maybe Shimla, Chamba or Rishikesh because they're both very peaceful and scenic. And close enough to Delhi that I can go back and hang out with other travellers for a while if I get homesick. Though I seem to get more homesick for India when I'm in Australia than vice versa.
![]() I'll probably have a new paradise by the time I get back from my next trip, though. jay: What makes New Delhi paradise for you? I didn't think it would make anyone's list. |

Mala... India is a geographically diverse country... the hills are no less "India" than the Rajasthan desert or the Western Ghats or the cities or jungles.

Hi folks,
My paradise in India is Gods own country. What a place!!! Mala, The hills that you see in hindi movies will look very similar to those in NZ, UK, US etc.. cos most of them are shot there !!! Cheers sK |
