Palm tree libraries
Has anyone heard of these ? They are apparently repositories of esoteric knowledge where every person's life is written [presumably in Sanskrit].

... Many ancient texts were written on palm leaves, kind of like the way the Egyptians used papyrus. Basically because people found that, well, palm leaves were useful for writing on presumably. It's still used today I think. If they'd be esoteric would have to do more with the content, not with the material it's written on I think
![]() *The Perfection of Wisdom is claimed to be one of the oldest such texts (in the Buddhist tradition anyway, it's claimed to be the earliest surviving Buddhist text. Presumably written a long time after his death however.) I'm not gonna look it up for you but look around at http://www.sacred-texts.com/ , they seem to have some hits on it. (Not really surprising as there are many versions and the text turns up in a number of sutras apparently, or rather they're comprised versions of it.) ** A little more precisely the source (in English) on that text seems to be Edward Conze's translation The Perfection of Wisdom In Eight Thousand Lines. Still not sure if this is what you're after. It's instructive alright. There's some beautiful illustrations that go with it, kept by Cambridge University, they've been published here and there. I think the palm leaves lent themselves to painting miniatures in particular and are still used that way. (They certainly seem to be in parts of India.) Well, yadida. Has this helped you?

Cheers !
Thank you for those replies ! Having searched on Google and among the threads, I still don't feel any closer to this subject. Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be...

The palm leaf library is still in existence at Vaithisvarankoil, a small town in Tamil Nadu.
I hear you can go there and have an astrological reading based on a palm leaf text that is supposed to have your life story written in it. Plus your past lives. I actually have this place in mind for my next trip this winter. If you start to follow some of the links you find on google, you'll find out more...some really very interesting history. I initially found out about this place on IM, so I know there are some threads somewhere on it....try looking up astrology. |

Everybody's life is written everywhere.
It's not the words, it's how they are read...

as for your life story, one can go to an akashic record reader (a reputable one!) where they consult the "ascended masters". I've had 3 readings done by 3 different people in 3 totally different places, with no personal info given to them whatsoever.....and they all have said the same thing... hmmmm........coincidence? |

I think you might be referring to the book of Brighu or The Brighu Samita Here's a link http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...9543755 49277
The sage Brighu wrote it 6000yrs ago after he had kicked Vishnu while he was sleeping & because of this Lakshmi put a curse on him saying all Brahmins would be destined to live a life of begging for their food so to counterbalance this Brighu said he would write a book of the past present & future of all human beings so that the Brahmins could make a living from telling people their future (horoscopes). Here's a few more links. http://book_of_prophecy.quantumquests .com/ http://members.tripod.com/~dlane5/brigu.html http://www.wandahl.com/Pages/Articles/BhriguSamhita.htm Happy reads KK |
