Yesterday a very elderly person told me this intresting story.....

A donkeys life span was 20 years. God offered the donkey that he would increase it's life span by another 20 years, but the donkey refused, saying, living a donkey's life for 20 years is too much. So the donkey's life span remained 20 years.

God then increased man's life by 20 years, i.e 60 years totally.

A dog's life span was 20 years. God offered the dog that he would increase it's life span by another 20 years, but the dog refused, saying, living a dog's life for 20 years is too much. So the dog's life span remained 20 years.

God then increased man's life by 20 years, i.e 80 years totally.

A monkey's life span was 20 years. God offered the monkey that he would increase it's life span by another 20 years, but the monkey refused saying, living a monkey's life for 20 years is too much. So the monkey's life span remained 20 years.

God then increased man's life by 20 years, i.e 100 years totally.

But a man's life span is still 40 years. Between 40 and 60 he lives a donkey's life. Working for his wife, children and the people around him, sloging his arse.

Between 60 and 80 he lives a dog's life. Opens the door when the bell rings, answering phones, fetching the paper, etc.

Between 80 and 100 he lives a monkey's life with kids making fun of him, pulling his hair, shirt, dhoti, etc.

Explanation of Life
On the first day God created the cow. God said, "You must go to the field all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer. I will give you a life span of sixty years."

The cow said, "That's kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. Let me have twenty years and I'll give back the other forty."

And God agreed.

On the second day, God created the dog.

God said, "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. I will give you a life span of twenty years."

The dog said, "That's too long to be barking. Give me ten years, and I'll give back the other ten."

So God agreed (sigh).

On the third day God created the monkey.

God said, entertain people, do monkey tricks and make them laugh. I'll give you a twenty year life span."

The Monkey said! , "How boring, monkey tricks for twenty years? I don't think so. Dog gave you back ten, so that's what I'll do too, okay?"

And God agreed again.

On the fourth day God created man.

God said, "Eat, sleep, play, enjoy. Do nothing, just enjoy, enjoy. I'll give you twenty years."

Man said, "What? Only twenty years? No way. Tell you what, I'll take my twenty, the forty the cow gave back, the ten the dog gave back and the ten the monkey gave back. That makes eighty, okay?"

"Okay," said God. "You've got a deal."

So that is why for the first twenty years we eat, sleep, play, enjoy and do nothing; for the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family; for the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain our grand-children and for the last ten years we sit in front of the house and bark at everybody.
