| Does one believe it culturally offensive not to wear underwear under ones Salwar Kameez? From my perspective I am completely fine covering up with the required attire, but my feminist assertions insist I take a stand somewhere, and no underwear seems like a good compromise.

| That's funny! But if you are like many women, and keep your money in your underwear when you travel, now what will you do??

| I would like to pose the same question but for Kurta Pyjama, maybe we will get some answers, this thread does not seem to be attracting the ladies... |

| Well, the whole research joke is over my head here, but about the pj's I say the more 'free' people the better. I lived in Indo for a while, and the western males I was with (admittedly not the females) thought it was a revelation of sorts wearing the sarong with no underwear in the heat and humidity. When I asked my Indo friends about it though they just laughed hysterically and said that they wouldn't be doing it. ![]() |

| It is not culturally offensive. However, please ensure that your Salwaar-Kameez is not transparent !

| Who keeps their money in there knickers???? Jesus, I think it much more culturally offensive to rummage around in your underwear and hand over sweaty soiled notes to people!! I strongly suggest you loose your knickers and buy a wallet! |

| I tried no knickers for a while and found it very uncomfortable. I don't think village women wear underwear. I talked to a guy recently here, he said he tried going without underwear for a while too but found it uncomfortable. It's the chaffing (I don't know how villagers do it). The salwar kameez is a very healthy comfortable outfit. Pakistani men wear it too. Just think of it that way. I'm sticking to my cotton underwear. |

| Senior Member | Radz's comment about winter reminded me of something that happened on a hike trip in the mountains near Manali. We were all 'yucky' after 3 days of hiking and no showers when we saw a little stream in the mountains (Late April/Early May). Few of us got rid of their clothes in a hurry and jumped into the water-only to come running out of it. The water was terribly cold. Some of us thought that we had permanent damage to our family jewels. |

| interesting thread- i dont mind the knickers-it is the bra i gave up years ago, and that unfortunately i shared with my indian lady host in an effort to try and get out of wearing something else, and she was horrified. i guess they think it is more attractive to have their bra straps showing through their clothes or out from under the back of the blouse then to cover up! had i not said anything, no one would ever know that i had no bra...whether it is a sari or a salwar suit, i will NOT wear a bra and that is final, and i defy anyone to notice!!! the sari has many folds of fabric when placed properly hides everything, and the dupattas if worn for that purpose also does the trick unless it is one of those filmy things-mine are only cotton. and if necessary, i wear an undershirt! i strongly suspect that they dont wear panties however-how else could they get out of the bathroom so quick? it takes me forever! |
