What is the best source for news/current events in India that you have found? I am looking for news as it is perceived in India, not how western media present it. Trying to get the scoop about activity in Northern India, particularly the Punjab and Amritsar....

Indian News

The Yahoo India website at:

http://in.dir.yahoo.com/News_and_Media/Newspapers/

has more than 40 Indian newspapers online, including the "biggies," Times of India and Hindustan Times. Many editions aren't in English, but many are. Browse around, and you should be able to find what you're looking for.

The newspapers in India are readily available even in the smallest of towns and have regional variations
be warned though the writing is very very dry and not exactly involving
Best source of news from an indian perspective...the chai stalls

However, the Times Of India is the best of a bad bunch...
Also i think you are now required to register to access the TofI website...or they are in the process of changing it

Some of the news magazines are reasonably good and give a deeper analysis of situations...Theya re in the style of Time magazine but are Indian owned run and edited which therefore gives a very Indian perspective on world events

Hope this helps

which

I am sure you would expect the Indian newspapers to offer an Indian perspective and not a British or American perspective.

When in USA I was amazed that the American newspapers wrote with an American perspective and they thought that the world was America.

I recommend the Hindu and Business Standard as great newspapers. The Times of India fails on many counts.
