New Years Eve!

Hi,
Yes, a litle far in advance, but I will be in India, Ranthambore National Park to be exact, for New Year's 2005. Anyway, just wondering if anyone has experienced a New Year's eve celebration in India? If so, what may I expect?

I was on the Rajdhani for New Year's Eve -- was it really only a few months ago? Anyway, it was very sedate in the passenger cars, and nearly everyone was asleep by 10:30. I believe the railworkers (conductors, cooks, the blanket boys, etc) had their own celebration.

It should be pretty quiet in Ranthambore and you probably could find a small party going on or something. Sometimes those are the best.

New Year Eve 1997 I spent in Pune in one of those 'dark' bars. I call them that because your supposed to feel totally wrong drinking and you share a pitch dark room with others belting down shots of whiseky and you cannot see the person sitting across from you.
Lotsa noise outside, pretty depressing inside.

2000, the year the world was supposed to end because of Y2k was spent in Diu. The Israelis organized a big rave with the help of the local authorities. It was good and bad. Good because it was lots of fun and bad because right after midnight, when the world didn't blow up, the party organizers stopped it and kicked all of the Indians out (police where even hitting people with canes) and I felt it became crap after that and uncool.

New Years Eve 2001 was spent in Bhagsu (Mcleod Ganj area) and with a small group of friends. We kept the dhaba open and drank and cooked food all night. That was a good night, since it was just a small group having a good time.

We spent the most recent New Years Eve in Jaipur. We were staying at a Taj Group hotel, which had a big ball with buffet that sounded fun, and that we really intended to go to...but we kind of fell asleep. So we woke up at 11:30, ordered room service, and brought the new year in with Limca while watching the fireworks out our window. It wasn't exactly wild and crazy, but it was certainly memorable.

PS: we got engaged the next day at the taj mahal

You should be in New Delhi for New Years' Eve.
