The Health Minister from Assam state has said cancer "is divine justice" caused by "past sins of a person".

I won't trouble to paste the BBC link which tells me about this health expert...

True. But all this brouhaha over a movie? I thought people and politicians has better things to do.

I also love people's sentiments in India, which must be the most fragile in the world. They get hurt with anything.

Then surely a quart of ganga-jal can cure it; or in his case brahmaputra-jal. The BJP in its previous incarnation as the Jan Sangh was a champion of obscurantism.

OldandRambling, a small suggestion, instead of creating so many new thread for every news and event, you can post it in NEWS and VIEWS or create one thread where you post everything you find worth sharing.

I have tried to post in the specific geographic "State Forum" where those State Ministers are the main subject of the item, such as the Taj Mahal booklet, or this Assam cancer twaddle. Can't remember now if the Dengue post was in Tamil Nadu forum or Health?

I do like the idea of one specific "Old and Rambling" collected mutterings thread... Hmmm

Dear ONR, maybe if you had an algamated thread?

Would we read it?

Now I get most info from UK papers, better than BBC or THE HINDU.

We talked about whether or not the mosquitoes would be flying in the current Delhi climate, with or without the pollution. Dengue seems to be a national, rather than a local problem. Anyway, then it became a thread about pollution and masks: mosquitoes, and even the BBC, fell by the wayside.

Cheers, Nick.

I was being too lazy to go back and look for myself. The point I was making is that I did try to put my various recent posts in the most suitable forums. I see now that the Dengue one was under health.
Are Chit Chat biscuits still available in India? Could do with a suitable biscuit now to go with the Chai and Chat.

I don't know, Ed. I dunk butter biscuits in my tea. God knows what this will do to the health of my descendants! Oh wait, I haven't got any.

The last time I posted that pic, there was a big argument about how many there were, and how many people could come and eat them*. Obviously inflammatory stuff. Chai and Chat is the place for this thread, and now I've posted those biscuits, the mods will probably banish us to masala chai and chat

*Quick, folks, I opened a new packet yesterday!

A good packet of biscuits is better than a passel of awful, ignorant, and unscrupulous politicians (wow, spell check recognizes Texas lingo)..

I am sure "awful, ignorant, and unscrupulous politicians" is not just Texas lingo...

One thing you can be fairly confident of, if the Assam Health Minister is diagnosed with such an illness, he will head first to the best private hospital, rather than to the temple to pray for divine forgivness...
