New Addition to the Brat Pack

We brought our 2 year old daughter home yesterday. We were able to adopt her (some formalities remain we have her in pre-adoptive foster care) in 5 months. A picture of her's is here.

Congratulations!

I hate the 'isn't s/he sweet' kind of reactions about kids, so I won't add to them

Great stuff, mridula; congratulations on the new family member.

And... the little girl is a lucky baby too! I was adopted by two wonderful people as an infant. They were my parents in every important sense of the word, physical origin being the least important of these things. They gave me my life just as much as if I had been born to them. Yes, I have good reason to be a great supporter of adoption

Friends of mine in UK adopted a 2-yr-old girl --- the process for them took two years!

Nick, many thanks for letting me know that you were adopted. One of my biggest concern is how will she react to the fact that she is adopted. But then we have to take one thing at a time.

And many thanks for letting me know about the typo.

Well, part of the secret with me is that it never was a secret, even though I was adopted as a tiny baby, and have no memory of anything previously. I went through odd phases, of course, but every child does over something.

Haylo, she for sure is a delight, she eats on her own! She is laughing a lot more today.

Nick I know that, all of us have our own crisis. Thanks a lot for the reassurance.

One of the nicest things I heard (in one of my very infrequent visit to the movies, I think) is a mother telling an adopted child, "we chose you"

But Mridula may have another problem. If adopted kids have common traits, this lady may join indiamike and beat Nick's post count

... is a mother telling an adopted child, "we chose you"
As a baby and as a very young child, my mother used to tell me the story, that they wanted a boy with blue eyes that they could call Nicholas. Later in life, she used to tell me that one thing that an adopted child could be sure of, like the Captain's cinema neighbour, is that they were wanted.

Experiences differ. I never had more than mild curiosity about my biological parents. I applied for, and got access to the file (very thin. I was up for adoption from birth, so there was practically nothing, and all the adopting parents needed in those days was one decent reference from, eg, a doc) and I put my name on the if-you-want-to-contact-me register that the British authorities maintain. Even though both my [adopted] parents are dead now, it is still their family that I feel to be mine. I a certainly not going to intrude on the life of someone for whom I was a traumatic accident nearly sixty years ago.

I am not saying that my unconscious is without scars from that initial experience of life, but what counts is the caring of the two people who took care of me after that.

As for today... I've adopted two cats, and that is far as it is going

Kingstonian thank you.

Captain I would remember that.

Nick thanks for sharing. Unfortunately here we asked and we are told nobody has any clue who her parents are because she was abandoned and all FIRs and everything got forth nothing. I don't know if that is a good thing or bad.

Congrats and best wishes, Mridula, very happy for you & your family!

They grow up too soon. Hard to believe my older one will be leaving the nest in a year. I'm trying to not get myself too worked up over it. Enjoy your little one.

It is neither: it is just the way that it is.

Poor wee thing... now you, and your husband, are the good news in her life
